ZZEGNA SS 2014 – SARTORIAL CODES COLLIDE IN A PLAY ON CONTRASTS
As summer breezes, it’s time to think out of the box by downplaying the codes of formalwear with an alternative message hinged on a sportified urban elegance. Relaxed and unconventional, yet attentive to the canons of impeccable tailoring, the Z Zegna man cherishes his social outings.
Jackets are studied to feel relaxed and paired with loose pajama–inspired pants, cinched with technical knitted cummerbunds. Graphic layers juxtapose stretch cotton bed shirts and knitted mock T shirts peeking out of roomy blazers characterized by side vents, shawl collars or contrast lapels.
The research for innovative fabrics remains at the heart of Z Zegna tradition. Technical wool in shades of deep jade, intense purple and navy, exclusively developed with Lanificio Zegna, provides the base of the collection. High performance mohair blends are shadow cut with crisp taffetas while traditional moiré textures and unexpected jacquards are applied to lightweight cottons and pure silk.
At the other end of the spectrum, the day wear is decidedly casual, rooted in authentic, sturdy cottons. Exclusive undulated seersuckers wink at the geometric and conceptual drawings of Sol Lewitt, adding body and surface movement to the each piece.
Roomy yet sharp lines trace the body, underscored by stylized denim jackets and summer raincoats, in a palette of vaporous pastels – lemon, lilac, clay and powdered pink. Cropped blousons and elongated field jackets, featuring utilitarian zips, also convey a deconstructed attitude.
The overall mood expresses youth, dynamism, and energy with dapper style. A transversal day-into-night vision, conveyed through a flurry of great and versatile separates, icons of a modern wardrobe, that lend themselves to be mixed-and-matched liberally with personal gusto and wit.
