QUICK-FIX AESTHETIC PROCEDURES ON THE RISE
‘Lunchtime’ plastic surgery – a trend in the UAE thanks to less invasive treatments and shorter recovery times
24 June 2012 – There is a new trend in the UAE of patients opting for quick-fix cosmetic treatments during their lunch-hour, according to Dr. Toledo, one of the UAE’s leading certified plastic surgeons.
With advancements in anaesthesia and subsequently shorter recovery times, plastic surgeons are seeing a surge in patients penciling in procedures into the small window of opportunity during their working day.
Discussing the trend, Dr. Toledo said: “With some treatments now available under local anaesthetic, it’s no surprise that over the last five years, as procedures become more discreet, we are seeing women and men in the UAE taking advantage of such opportunities.”
“The most common lunchtime procedures are botox and fillers, both quick to perform with no downtime. Then we have more of an ‘afternoon procedure’ where small laser liposuctions under local anesthesia can be performed. This takes around 30 minutes and most commonly would be on the dreaded ‘muffin tops’, back fat removal, fatty knees or a little tummy pouch. There is minimum downtime with this procedure although it would be advised to rest for the rest of the afternoon. However, some patients hectic lifestyles may mean they opt to go straight back to work.”
Dr. Toledo warns that not allowing yourself adequate recovery time can be risky, adding, “The increase in lunchtime procedures is mainly due to the quick fix factor, these treatments are widely available and for this reason it is imperative that you look for treatment from a reputable plastic surgeon.”
Dr. Toledo has published and edited several books in the field and has published over 60 scientific papers in international publications. Dr. Toledo holds the title of Professor having lectured at more than 500 congresses, delivered over 100 teaching courses and organized over 25 international congresses and symposiums.
